HI Gerry,
Ken Hewitt forwarded me your email.
If an employee work at CERN and purchases health coverage through a provider in
Switzerland (UNIQA), MIT will reimburse the employee up to the cost that the employee
would have paid for the Plan if they were having deductions from their paycheck for the
BCBS PPO (Blue Care Elect) Plan subsidized rate, these rates are below.
Employee Pays Subsidized Rate
BCBS PPO
Monthly Individual Employee Premium - $203.68
Monthly Family Employee Premium - $565.94
You would send the request for reimbursement to my attention along with the proof of
coverage and payment for the coverage. The coverage letter from the provider must
include the dates of coverage.
Drop a line if you have any questions.
Thanks.
Shawn

Hi Ken,
I am at CERN now looking to set up life here
in Geneva. I'd be expecting to switch over to
the CERN insurance" (UNIQA) in 2-3 months.
There are two basic questions I have:
1) With the insurance cost of something like
900 SF/month what portion does MIT re-imburse
me for? Is this figured in dollars or Swiss Francs?
(i.e. is the level of compensation independent
of exchange rates, or effectively goes up and
down with the dollar?) I'd like to figure out my
monthly expense burden when considering
what I can afford for an apartment.
2) What is the practical procedure for me to
switch from my current US based health insurance
to UNIQA? I assume for the UNIQA part I essentially
take care of here (or IS there something special
I should do or sign up for when talking to the UNIQA
folks?); but there is the matter of terminating my current
insurance plan at the given moment, and being
"on the books" to be compensated for UNIQA.
What do I need to do?
Thanks
Gerry
